WE ARE THE MOORE COUNTY CHORAL SOCIETY.

How we started...

Twenty-three members of the Sandhills Community Chorus presented their first concert on Sunday, December 7, 1969, at The Village Chapel in Pinehurst, NC, under the direction of McKeller Israel. They were joined by Sandhills Community College music students and others called the Concert Choir. The concert was entitled, "An Hour of Sacred Music."

By 1975, the group was known as The Sandhills Area Community Chorus with 36 members, under the direction of Julian Long. They presented Part One of Handel's "Messiah," on Sunday, December 7, again at The Village Chapel. The Moore County Choral Society was born when they realized their gift and each agreed to contribute towards fundiing for musicians to accomopany them. The Chorus also presented concerts under the direction of Armand Kitto, Robert Engelson and John Shannon.

Today, 100 plus voices regularly bring audiences of nearly a thousand to their feet in appreciative applause. The North Carolina Symphony has invited the Society to join it in concert five times; in turn, the Society has often invited members of the Symphony to accompany it in its annual Classical Concert.
