| Jennifer Thomas, soprano, has performed with the the Boston Lyric Opera, Lake George Opera Festival, Elysian Opera at Lincoln Center, and the Port;and Opera. She has appeared in concerts with various orchestras, oratorio societies and chamber ensembles throughout the Northeast, Among her operatic roles are Countess in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro , Dona Anna in Mozart's Don Giovanni, Violetta in Verdi's La Traviata, and Cio-cio San in Puccini's Madama Butterfly. Ms. Thomas is a graduate of Oberlin College Conservatory of Music and the New England Conservatory of Music where she received her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Vocal Performance and Opera.Since moving to the Sandhills two years ago, Ms. Thomas has appeared with the Moore County Music Society, Handel On Hunger's Messiah, and several other venues. In addition to teaching privately, Ms. Thomas is a professor in the Music Department at the University of North Carolina, Pembroke, and Director of Music at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Southern Pines. Dan Boye, bass-baritone, has performed widely as an operatic, musical theater , and oratorio soloist. He has sung various roles in over a dozen Opera Carolina productions. He most recently sang the role of Clayton McAlister in the Opera Carolina production of Carlisle Floyds new opera, Cold Sassy Tree. In the 2002 season he appeared as Herr von Faninal in Strauss Der Rosencavalier. He has also performed with the Charlotte Symphony, Canton (OH) Symphony, the Breckenridge Music Festival, the North Carolina Symphony, and the National Repertory Orchestra. A graduate of Emory and Henry College and the University of Georgia, Dr. Boye is currently Professor of Physics and chair of the Physics Department of Davidson College, where he teaches a wide range of physics courses, including a course for non-science majors entitled Musical Technology. He also maintains an active research program in the laser spectroscopy of insulating materials. Dr. Boye is dedicated to using the arts to teach science. He has provided educational opportunities for literally thousands of public school students and adults of all ages, musical and scientific backgrounds, through various programs and lectures. One such program is his Science of Singing lecture that takes a systematic look at the anatomy of the vocal instrument and the physics associated with its sound production. Greg Pilson, tenor, is the Choral Director of the North Moore High and Elise Middle Schools in Robbins. He received his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, and Associate of Fine Arts degree from Sandhills Community College. He is currently the Minister of Music of First Baptist Church in Robbins, after serving the Northside Baptist Church in Greensboro as director for eleven years. Before returning to Moore County, Mr. Pilson was the choral director for Southeast Randolph Middle School in Ramseur, NC, for eight years. He has appeared in local productions of Godspell, Guys and Dolls, West Side Story, Brigadoon, and Oklahoma. He has also performed for many civic and religious functions. Torin Wright, bass, earned his Bachelor of Music Education degree from Northern Arizona University in 1955. He is Choir Master of Southern Pines United Methodist Church and an owner of the Sandhills Music Academy, LLC. As a choral performer, Mr. Wright has been on the national, regional and state stages on several occasions. As the former choir director of Pinecrest High School, he has taken his choirs to the state stage, directed all county or honor choirs, taken students to all state choirs, and has received the highest ratings at state festivals. Mr. Wright has performed in over forty musical theater productions, in which some of his most memorable roles were Arthur in Camelot, Top in Tenderland, Tobias in Sweeney Todd, and Matt in The Fantasticks. Molly Quinn, soprano, received the degrees, Master of Music in Vocal Performance and Bachelor of Music, from the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music. In addition, she studied at Boston College, University of North Carolina - Greensboro, and University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. Training and directing experience in opera are part of her educational background. Ms. Quinns primary interest is in the performance of early music. She has sung frequently with the Cincinnati Baroque, an ensemble of twenty professional singers, who perform music of the era of Bach and Handel. Among the operatic roles she has sung are Amor in Monteverdis Lincoronazione di Poppea and Belinda in Purcells Dido and Aeneas. In other operas she has sung partial roles and scenes. Operatic chorus experience with the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, Cincinnati Opera, and Harvard-Radcliffe Savoyard Players, plus solo performances of the works of Bach, Handel, Pergolesi, Mozart, Monteverdi, and Faure enhance her vocal repertoire. While developing her career in opera, Ms. Quinn teaches voice in Chapel Hill. | |
